About

My name is Ryan Heller. I am currently a sophomore at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. I am planning on majoring in media and journalism. I started out my writing career making comedy articles for my school paper. I have then started to became a more diverse journalist. During my first semester, I joined the Daily Tar Heel as a sports writer, where I have discovered my passion for sports writing. I have been given the opportunity to cover a wide range of collegiate athletics and share the information I receive to the world. I have also challenged myself to write about more serious political issues. One of my most frequently used topics are the impacts of school shootings. Living only eight miles away from Stoneman Douglas, I was deeply affected by the horrific acts of violence that occurred almost two yers ago. It has inspired me to look deeper into the shooting and to inform the people around me, including myself on the effects they have on societies. While I have no idea what my future has in store, I know that journalism will forever be a part of my life.
